VCs have pushed a long list of tech trends that were supposed to change everything but didn’t:

1. Daily deals (Groupon)
2. Consumer 3D printing
3. Micromobility
4. Coworking (WeWork)
5. Meal kits (Blue Apron)
6. NFTs
7. “Uber for X”

AI may be different. But hype isn’t evidence of inevitability.

One thing I really appreciate about Muse and Meta’s approach to personal superintelligence is the idea that AI agents should help you and make your life easier.

This is in stark contrast to frontier labs who are up front that their goal is for agents to replace workers.

It’s an uncomfortable truth but they definitely exist.

Meta’s Muse feels like a new paradigm in consumer AI that goes beyond research and productivity.

I’ve used Muse to design and order a custom birthday card from Staples, book a workman to repair a door, find unclaimed cash and get me a discount on a replacement Oura ring.

Very different from the value I get from ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude.

I think the focus on alignment at frontier labs is misguided.

If you don’t want Claude deleting emails, don’t give it that permission or require human approval.

Trying to “teach” an unreliable LLM that deleting emails without asking is bad is a fool’s errand. This applies to all dangerous actions.
