I left fmt development two weeks ago. Now feels like a good moment to explain why.

C++ libraries are racing to add features and we may not survive this. I want to work from the outside to warn the public about locale support, chrono formatting and another format proposal.

Maintainers are underinvesting in simplicity. A library could undergo a template explosion or lose control of its compile times without anyone noticing.

We only found out when someone tried constexpr FP formatting.
