CISC is the solution.
More than 40 years ago, while still at university, I built together with a few fellow students a computer around the NS32000 processor: full 3-address machine, every operand type and addressing mode (for each of the three) you could imagine (including 'module' !). CISC through and through.
While we built the PASCAL compiler for it, we noticed that code generation was pretty much a 1 to 1 translation from simple PASCAL to machine code 😊😎
