The key idea of modules is to precompile as much as you can:
- the implementation
- the intented API
- the accidental/unavoidable API 😮
- lots of name lookup
- lots of name resolution
- lots of template specializations and instantiations

Hence, make modules reasonably big.

CISC is the solution.

More than 40 years ago, while still at university, I built together with a few fellow students a computer around the NS32000 processor: full 3-address machine, every operand type and addressing mode (for each of the three) you could imagine (including 'module' !). CISC through and through.

While we built the PASCAL compiler for it, we noticed that code generation was pretty much a 1 to 1 translation from simple PASCAL to machine code 😊😎

Formatting with argument types checked at compile time and translated at run time works now. All strings need to be UTF encoded.
The last expression doesn't compile because of a subtle error in the plural format string. 😊
The translation engine is backed by 'gettext'.
